Dr. Andrew Korcek, DDS

Born in Northern California. Trained at Loma Linda. Forged in the United States Navy. Now rooted in the Carson Valley with his family.

Education & Training

Dr. Korcek graduated from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in 2015, then completed a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency at Camp Pendleton through the United States Navy — intensive, hands-on clinical training well beyond standard dental school preparation.

Military Career & Northern Nevada

Following his residency, Dr. Korcek was stationed at Naval Air Station Fallon in Northern Nevada. He and his wife fell in love with the region — the wide-open landscape, the Sierra Nevada backdrop, and the tight-knit community that Carson Valley delivers. In 2021, he earned his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD), a distinction held by fewer than 7% of dentists in the United States. In 2023, he resigned his commission from active duty to spend more time with his growing family and plant permanent roots in Northern Nevada.

Korcek Dental

Dr. Korcek acquired a well-established Minden dental practice, ensuring continuity of care for existing patients while introducing modern techniques and a fresh clinical perspective. His unique combination of academic excellence, military-grade precision, and personal investment in the community underscores his commitment to providing exceptional, patient-focused dental care at Korcek Dental in Minden, Nevada.

Implant Dentistry

Dental implants that
last a lifetime.

Replace missing teeth with a permanent solution that looks, feels, and functions exactly like a natural tooth. No referrals. No long drives to Reno.

Implant training completing 2026 — securing spots now.
What Is a Dental Implant

The most natural tooth replacement available

A dental implant is a small titanium post surgically placed into your jawbone to serve as an artificial tooth root. Over several months, the implant fuses with your bone through a process called osseointegration. Once secure, a custom ceramic crown is attached on top. The result is a tooth replacement that is indistinguishable from the real thing — it does not slip, does not require adhesive, and does not damage adjacent teeth the way a bridge does.

Implants are the only tooth replacement option that preserves jawbone. When a tooth is lost and not replaced, the jawbone beneath it begins to resorb — meaning it shrinks. Over time, this changes your facial structure and makes future treatment more complex. An implant stimulates the bone just like a natural root, stopping this process entirely.

A note from Dr. Korcek

“I completed extensive implant training because I believe patients in Minden deserve access to this level of care without having to drive to a specialist in Reno. Implants are the gold standard in tooth replacement, and I want to offer that right here in our community.”

The Process

Four steps to a complete smile

01

Consultation & Imaging

Digital X-rays and 3D imaging evaluate bone density, gum health, and bite alignment. A personalized surgical plan is created around your anatomy.

02

Implant Placement

The titanium post is placed under local anesthesia. Most patients are surprised by how comfortable the procedure is.

03

Osseointegration

The implant fuses with your jawbone over 3–6 months. A temporary restoration keeps your smile complete during this time.

04

Crown Placement

A custom porcelain crown is attached. It is matched to your surrounding teeth in shape, size, and color.

Who Is a Candidate

Most adults with good general health qualify

The majority of adults who have lost one or more teeth are good candidates for implants. The key requirements are adequate bone density, healthy gums, and absence of uncontrolled systemic conditions. Patients who smoke or have conditions like diabetes can still receive implants with proper management — Dr. Korcek will review your complete health history at your consultation.

Patients who are not immediately ready for implants may benefit from bone grafting first. This is a routine preparatory procedure that rebuilds jawbone where it has been lost, creating a stable foundation for the implant.

Good candidates include

Adults with one or more missing teeth, patients with ill-fitting dentures, anyone who has lost a tooth to decay, injury, or gum disease.

May require preparation

Patients with significant bone loss may need grafting first. Patients with active gum disease will need that treated before implant placement.

Alternative options

If implants are not the right fit, Dr. Korcek will discuss bridges, partial dentures, or implant-supported dentures.

Cosmetic Dentistry

A smile you’re proud
to show off.

From professional whitening to porcelain veneers, Dr. Korcek uses conservative cosmetic techniques to enhance your smile without unnecessary removal of healthy tooth structure.

Cosmetic Dentistry at Korcek Dental

What we offer and what sets us apart

Cosmetic dentistry is not about perfection for its own sake — it is about helping you feel confident and comfortable with your smile. Dr. Korcek takes a conservative approach to cosmetic work, meaning he always recommends the least invasive option that achieves the result you want. If tooth-colored bonding can fix a chip just as well as a veneer, he will tell you so.

Professional Teeth Whitening

In-office whitening produces results several shades brighter in a single visit. Take-home tray systems are also available for gradual whitening at your own pace.

Porcelain Veneers

Ultra-thin ceramic shells bonded to the front surface of teeth to correct chips, gaps, discoloration, and minor alignment issues. Requires minimal tooth preparation.

Composite Bonding

Tooth-colored resin applied and sculpted directly to the tooth to repair chips, cracks, or gaps. A single-visit solution with no lab work required.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

All restorations at Korcek Dental use composite resin — never amalgam. Fillings are matched precisely to your natural tooth shade.

Smile Makeovers

Combining two or more treatments to comprehensively transform the appearance of your smile. Treatment planned in a single consultation.

Gum Contouring

Reshaping the gumline to create a more balanced, proportional smile. Often combined with veneers or bonding for comprehensive results.

Teeth Whitening

The most popular cosmetic treatment for a reason

Professional whitening is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve your smile’s appearance. Over-the-counter strips use a fraction of the whitening concentration available at a dental office, and they cannot be customized to your tooth shape, meaning uneven results are common.

In-office whitening uses a professional-strength peroxide gel activated by a specialized light. Most patients see results of 6–10 shades brighter in a single 60-90 minute appointment. Take-home trays use custom-molded trays fitted to your exact bite for more even coverage than any strip product.

Results typically last 1–3 years depending on diet and lifestyle habits. Coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco are the primary contributors to staining. A simple annual touch-up with your take-home trays maintains your results.

Good candidates

Patients with intrinsic (deep) or extrinsic (surface) staining. Whitening works on natural enamel only — crowns and veneers will not respond and may need to be replaced after whitening if they no longer match.

Sensitivity

Some patients experience temporary sensitivity during or after whitening. This is normal and resolves within 24–48 hours. Dr. Korcek recommends a sensitivity toothpaste in the days before treatment.

Preventive Care

The best dental work is
the kind you never need.

Preventive dentistry is the foundation of a healthy mouth. Regular cleanings, digital X-rays, and oral health education catch problems early — before they become expensive.

Why Preventive Care Matters

What happens when you skip your cleanings

Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that forms on your teeth constantly. Within 24 hours, plaque begins to harden into tartar — a calcified deposit that cannot be removed by brushing or flossing alone. Once tartar forms, only a professional cleaning removes it. Left untreated, tartar leads to gingivitis, then periodontitis, then irreversible bone loss and tooth loss.

The good news: this entire process is preventable. Two professional cleanings per year, combined with proper daily brushing and flossing, stop the cycle before it starts. The ADA reports that patients who maintain regular cleanings spend dramatically less on dental care over their lifetime than those who skip and treat reactively.

What’s Included

Your comprehensive preventive visit

Professional Cleaning (Prophylaxis)

Removal of plaque, tartar, and surface stains using specialized instruments. Includes polishing of all tooth surfaces.

Digital X-Rays

Low-radiation digital radiographs detect cavities between teeth, bone loss, infections, and problems invisible to the naked eye.

Comprehensive Exam

Dr. Korcek evaluates every tooth, the gum tissue, your bite, the jaw joints, and checks for signs of oral cancer.

Oral Cancer Screening

A thorough visual and tactile examination of all soft tissues. Early detection dramatically improves outcomes.

Periodontal Assessment

Gum pocket depths are measured to detect the earliest signs of periodontal disease before symptoms appear.

Personalized Home Care Guidance

Erika and Joanna provide tailored brushing and flossing recommendations based on what they see in your mouth.

Fluoride & Sealants

Additional protection for patients at higher risk

Fluoride treatments applied at your cleaning appointment remineralize weak spots in enamel before they become cavities. They are applied as a varnish and take less than a minute. Fluoride is recommended for children, teenagers, and adults with a history of decay.

Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings painted onto the chewing surfaces of the back teeth — the molars and premolars where most cavities in children and teenagers form. Sealants fill in the deep grooves where bacteria collect and are extremely effective at preventing decay.

At-Home Care

What you do between appointments matters

Professional cleanings set the stage, but what you do at home determines how healthy your teeth remain between visits. Dr. Korcek’s team will walk you through the specifics at your appointment, but the fundamentals are:

  • Brush twice daily for two full minutes — Use a soft-bristled brush at a 45-degree angle to the gumline. Most people brush for 30–45 seconds; that is not enough.
  • Floss once daily — Flossing removes plaque from between teeth and just below the gumline where your toothbrush cannot reach. Water flossers are a good supplement but not a replacement.
  • Use fluoride toothpaste — ADA-accepted fluoride toothpaste strengthens enamel with every use.
  • Limit sugar and acidic foods — Bacteria feed on sugar and produce acid that erodes enamel. Rinsing with water after eating and waiting 30 minutes before brushing reduces acid damage.
  • Replace your toothbrush every 3–4 months — Frayed bristles are significantly less effective at removing plaque.

Korcek Dental

Schedule your next cleaning

Most insurance plans cover two cleanings per year at 100%. There is no reason to delay.

Dental Anxiety

You’re not alone — and
we’re here for it.

Dental fear is one of the most common reasons people avoid care. At Korcek Dental, we have built our entire approach around making nervous patients feel safe, heard, and in control.

Understanding Dental Anxiety

It is far more common than you think

Studies estimate that between 36 and 60 percent of people experience some degree of dental anxiety. Approximately 12 percent suffer from dental phobia severe enough that they avoid the dentist entirely for years. The result is a cycle of avoidance that leads to more serious dental problems — which then require more involved treatment — which increases anxiety further.

Dental anxiety has many causes: a previous painful experience, fear of needles, loss of control, embarrassment about the state of one’s teeth, or simple sensory sensitivity to sounds and smells in a dental office. Whatever the cause, it is valid, and Dr. Korcek and his team approach every nervous patient with genuine patience and zero judgment.

What our patients say

“They were so patient and kind to me. I have white knuckle dental fear and they made me feel so comfortable. Successful root canal and the staff is absolutely amazing. So glad I was referred here!”

— Tina Gautreaux, Carson Valley

How We Help

Our anxiety protocol, step by step

Tell Us Before You Arrive

When scheduling, let us know you experience dental anxiety. We note it in your chart and ensure the entire team is prepared before you walk through the door.

A Slower, Unhurried Pace

Dr. Korcek will never rush a nervous patient. Appointments for anxious patients are given additional time so nothing feels hurried or overwhelming.

Full Explanation Before Every Step

Nothing happens without your understanding and consent. Dr. Korcek explains each step in plain language before beginning so there are no surprises.

Stop Signals

Every patient can signal to stop at any time — no questions asked, no pressure to continue. You are always in control.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous oxide is a safe, effective sedative inhaled through a small nasal mask. It induces a relaxed, slightly euphoric feeling within minutes. It wears off completely within 5 minutes of the mask being removed, so you can drive yourself home.

Distraction Techniques

Music during treatment, weighted blankets available on request, and a calm, low-stimulus environment help reduce sensory overload for sensitive patients.

Nitrous Oxide

Safe, effective, and completely reversible

Nitrous oxide — commonly known as laughing gas — has been used safely in dentistry for over 150 years. It is the most widely used form of dental sedation in the United States and is appropriate for patients of all ages.

The gas is inhaled through a small, comfortable nasal mask. Within two to three minutes, patients typically feel a sense of warmth, relaxation, and mild euphoria. Pain perception is reduced, and time seems to pass more quickly. You remain conscious and able to communicate throughout the procedure.

Unlike oral sedation, nitrous oxide is fully reversible within minutes of removing the mask. There is no grogginess afterward, no recovery period, and no need for a driver.

Who is a good candidate

Patients with mild to moderate anxiety, sensitive gag reflex, difficulty getting numb, or those undergoing longer procedures.

Is it safe?

Nitrous oxide has an excellent safety record when administered by a trained dentist. It is appropriate for children and adults alike.

What to expect

You will feel relaxed but awake. You can still respond to Dr. Korcek and raise your hand at any time.

Cost

Nitrous oxide is not typically covered by dental insurance but is available for a modest additional fee. Ask our team for current pricing.

What Counts as a Dental Emergency

When to call us immediately

A dental emergency is any situation involving severe pain, swelling, bleeding, trauma to the teeth or jaw, or a lost restoration that is causing distress. When in doubt, call. We would rather take your call and help you determine whether it is urgent than have you suffer unnecessarily or lose a tooth that could have been saved.

Severe Toothache

Intense, persistent tooth pain may indicate an abscess or pulp infection. This will not resolve on its own and can spread.

Knocked-Out Tooth

Time is critical. Handle tooth by the crown only, rinse gently, keep moist, and call immediately. Reimplantation is possible if done quickly.

Cracked or Fractured Tooth

A cracked tooth can worsen with each bite. If there is pain or visible fracture, do not wait.

Lost Crown or Filling

A lost restoration exposes sensitive dentin. Temporary over-the-counter cement can help until you are seen.

Abscess or Swelling

Facial swelling, particularly with fever, is a serious sign of spreading infection. Call immediately.

Broken Braces or Wire

A broken wire or bracket that is cutting soft tissue needs attention. Cover sharp ends with orthodontic wax as a temporary measure.

First Aid: What To Do While You Wait

Immediate steps for common emergencies

Knocked-out tooth

Pick up by the crown only. Do not scrub or remove tissue fragments. Rinse gently with milk or saline. Attempt to reinsert in the socket if possible and bite down softly on a cloth. If not possible, keep tooth moist in milk, saline, or between cheek and gum. Call immediately.

Severe toothache

Rinse with warm salt water. Take over-the-counter ibuprofen (not aspirin, which can increase bleeding). Do not apply aspirin directly to the gum. Call us.

Lost crown or filling

Over-the-counter dental cement (available at most pharmacies) can temporarily seal the exposed tooth. Avoid chewing on that side until seen.

Broken tooth

Rinse mouth with warm water. Apply a cold compress to the face to reduce swelling. Save any broken pieces. Call us immediately.

Soft tissue injury

Rinse with mild salt water. Apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth to control bleeding. If bleeding does not stop within 15 minutes, go to an emergency room.

Abscess

Do not attempt to pop it. Rinse with warm salt water to draw the infection and relieve pressure. Take ibuprofen for pain. Call us immediately — infections can spread rapidly.

Endodontics

Root canal therapy:
comfortable, effective, tooth-saving.

Modern root canals are nothing like their reputation. Most patients are surprised by how routine the procedure feels — and relieved by how quickly their pain resolves.

What Is a Root Canal

Understanding the procedure that saves teeth

A root canal — technically called endodontic therapy — is a procedure that removes infected or inflamed pulp from the inside of a tooth. The pulp is the soft tissue at the core of each tooth containing nerves and blood vessels. When bacteria reach the pulp through deep decay, a crack, or a large filling, infection develops. Left untreated, the infection spreads to the jaw and surrounding teeth.

Root canal therapy removes the infected tissue, disinfects the root canal system, and seals the tooth to prevent reinfection. A crown is typically placed afterward to protect and restore the tooth. The result: the tooth is saved. Without treatment, extraction is the only alternative.

The pain myth: Root canals do not cause pain — they relieve it. The discomfort patients associate with root canals is caused by the infection itself, not the procedure. With modern local anesthesia, the procedure is no more uncomfortable than a routine filling.

Signs You May Need a Root Canal

Do not ignore these symptoms

  • Severe, persistent toothache or pressure
  • Prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold after the stimulus is removed
  • Darkening or discoloration of the tooth
  • Swelling or tenderness in the surrounding gum tissue
  • A recurring pimple or bump on the gum
  • Pain that radiates to the jaw, ear, or neck

Many of these symptoms indicate that the dental pulp has been compromised. However, some teeth that need root canals cause no symptoms at all — which is one reason why regular X-rays at your cleaning appointments are important. An X-ray can reveal infection at the root tip before any pain develops, making treatment simpler and more predictable.

The Procedure

Step by step

01

Anesthesia

Local anesthetic is administered. Once fully numb, you should feel pressure but no pain. Nitrous oxide is available for anxious patients.

02

Access & Removal

A small opening is made in the tooth. The infected pulp is carefully removed using specialized files.

03

Cleaning & Shaping

The canals are cleaned, shaped, and disinfected with antimicrobial solutions.

04

Sealing

The canals are filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha and sealed. A temporary or permanent crown protects the tooth.

Oral Surgery

Expert extractions
in a familiar setting.

Dr. Korcek handles a wide range of oral surgical procedures in-house, including simple and surgical extractions and tooth exposure for orthodontic treatment. No referral needed for most cases.

Oral Surgery at Korcek Dental

What we do in-house

The word “surgery” can sound intimidating, but many common oral surgical procedures are straightforward, brief, and well within the scope of a highly trained general dentist. Dr. Korcek completed his Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency with the U.S. Navy — a program that includes significant surgical training. He performs most extractions and surgical procedures in-house, saving patients the inconvenience and cost of a specialist visit.

Simple Extractions

Removal of teeth that are visible in the mouth and fully erupted. Performed under local anesthesia. Most patients are surprised by how quick and comfortable this is.

Surgical Extractions

Removal of teeth that are broken at the gumline, impacted, or have complex root anatomy requiring a small incision. Common for impacted wisdom teeth.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Third molars (wisdom teeth) are the most commonly extracted teeth. When they are impacted or causing crowding, removal is recommended. Dr. Korcek evaluates each case individually.

Tooth Exposure

Occasionally a tooth is impacted but needs to be guided into position orthodontically rather than removed. Dr. Korcek can expose the tooth so your orthodontist can attach a bracket.

Post-Extraction Site Preservation

Bone grafting at the extraction site preserves the socket for future implant placement. Prevents the bone loss that occurs when a socket is left to heal naturally.

Pre-Prosthetic Surgery

Preparation of the jaw and soft tissue to optimize fit, function, and comfort for dentures or other prosthetics.

Wisdom Teeth

What you need to know

Wisdom teeth — the third molars at the back of your mouth — typically emerge between ages 17 and 25. Many people do not have enough space in their jaw to accommodate them properly. When this happens, wisdom teeth become impacted: they may grow in at an angle, push against adjacent teeth, or remain partially or fully trapped beneath the gumline.

Impacted wisdom teeth are a leading cause of pain, swelling, infection, and crowding. Not all wisdom teeth need to be removed — if they are fully erupted, properly aligned, and easy to clean, they can stay. Dr. Korcek will evaluate yours with a panoramic X-ray and give you an honest recommendation.

Signs of a problem

Jaw pain or stiffness, difficulty opening the mouth, swelling behind the last molar, recurring gum infection around a partially erupted tooth.

Best time to remove

Earlier is generally easier. Wisdom tooth roots are not fully formed in younger patients, making extraction simpler and recovery faster.

Recovery

Most patients take 2–3 days off for wisdom tooth extraction. Soft foods, ice packs, and prescribed or OTC pain medication manage discomfort effectively.

After Your Procedure

Recovery instructions

  • Bite on gauze for 30–60 minutes after extraction to control bleeding. Replace as needed until bleeding slows.
  • Do not use a straw for 72 hours — the suction can dislodge the blood clot and cause dry socket, a painful complication.
  • Ice packs applied to the cheek in 20-minute intervals during the first 24 hours reduce swelling.
  • Eat soft foods — yogurt, mashed potatoes, smoothies, scrambled eggs. Avoid hard, crunchy, or chewy foods for the first several days.
  • Do not smoke for at least 72 hours. Smoking significantly increases dry socket risk.
  • Rinse gently with warm salt water starting 24 hours after the procedure to keep the site clean.
  • Call us if you experience severe pain worsening after 3 days, fever, or excessive swelling. These may indicate infection or dry socket.

Orthodontics

A straighter smile —
at any age.

Orthodontic treatment is not just about aesthetics. Properly aligned teeth are easier to clean, put less stress on the jaw, and reduce the risk of wear, cracking, and gum disease.

Orthodontics at Korcek Dental

What we offer

Dr. Korcek provides orthodontic evaluation and coordinates care with trusted orthodontic specialists when comprehensive treatment is needed. For patients seeking clear aligner options, he can discuss treatment planning and co-management. For patients already in orthodontic treatment, he provides comprehensive general dental care that keeps your teeth and gums healthy throughout the process.

Straighter teeth are not merely a cosmetic preference. Crowded or misaligned teeth are significantly harder to clean thoroughly. Plaque accumulates in areas a toothbrush cannot reach, leading to a higher risk of cavities and gum disease. Bite misalignment puts uneven stress on teeth, causing excessive wear and increasing the risk of cracking. Orthodontic treatment addresses all of this.

Types of Orthodontic Treatment

Traditional braces vs. clear aligners

Traditional Braces

Metal or ceramic brackets bonded to the teeth, connected by a wire adjusted at regular intervals. The most reliable option for complex tooth movement and bite correction. Today’s brackets are significantly smaller and more comfortable than those from a decade ago.

  • Most effective for complex crowding and bite correction
  • Fixed — cannot be removed, which means compliance is not a variable
  • Typically completed in 18–36 months depending on case complexity
  • Require more diligent cleaning around brackets and wires

Clear Aligners

A series of custom-fabricated clear plastic trays worn 20–22 hours per day, changed every 1–2 weeks. Each tray moves teeth incrementally toward the target position.

  • Nearly invisible — preferred by most adult patients
  • Removable for eating, brushing, and flossing
  • Fewer office visits required for adjustments
  • Best suited for mild to moderate crowding and spacing issues
  • Must be worn consistently — compliance is critical to results
Caring for Your Teeth During Treatment

Oral hygiene with braces

Orthodontic treatment creates additional challenges for oral hygiene. Brackets and wires trap food and plaque in areas that are difficult to clean. Patients in braces are at elevated risk for cavities and white spot lesions — permanently visible marks left when enamel decalcifies around a bracket. This is entirely preventable with diligent brushing and flossing.

Periodontal Care

Gum disease is the leading
cause of tooth loss in adults.

Periodontal disease is largely silent until it is advanced. Regular monitoring, early treatment, and consistent maintenance stop it before permanent damage occurs.

What Is Gum Disease

Understanding gingivitis and periodontitis

Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection of the structures that support your teeth — the gums, periodontal ligament, and jawbone. It begins as gingivitis (inflammation of the gum tissue) and, if left untreated, progresses to periodontitis (destruction of the bone and connective tissue anchoring the teeth).

The concerning reality is that most periodontal disease develops silently. Patients often do not notice bleeding gums, subtle recession, or mild bad breath until the disease has been progressing for years. By the time teeth feel loose, significant bone loss has already occurred. This is why periodontal assessment is included at every cleaning appointment at Korcek Dental.

The systemic connection: Periodontal disease has been strongly associated with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, respiratory disease, and adverse pregnancy outcomes. The same bacteria responsible for gum infections can enter the bloodstream and trigger systemic inflammatory responses. Treating gum disease is not just about your mouth.

Healthy Gums

Gingivitis

Red, swollen, bleeding gums. No bone loss yet. Fully reversible with professional cleaning and improved home care.

Early Periodontitis

3–4mm pockets. Early bone loss beginning. Requires scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) to halt progression.

Advanced Periodontitis

5mm+ pockets, significant bone loss, tooth mobility. Requires more aggressive periodontal therapy. Some tooth loss may be inevitable.

Treatment

Scaling & root planing and periodontal maintenance

Scaling and root planing — also called a deep cleaning — is the primary non-surgical treatment for early to moderate periodontitis. Unlike a routine cleaning that addresses the crown of the tooth and shallow areas around the gumline, scaling and root planing reaches below the gumline to remove tartar and bacteria from root surfaces and infected pockets.

The procedure is typically performed in two appointments, treating one side of the mouth at a time under local anesthesia. Most patients experience minimal discomfort and notice significant improvement in gum health within weeks.

After deep cleaning

Gum tissue reattaches to cleaner root surfaces, pockets shrink, and bleeding on probing decreases significantly.

Periodontal maintenance

After active treatment, periodontal patients are placed on a 3–4 month maintenance schedule rather than the standard 6-month recall.

At-home care

More frequent professional cleanings must be supported by thorough daily brushing and flossing. An electric toothbrush is strongly recommended.

Korcek Dental

Bleeding gums are not normal.

Dental Restorations

Restore your teeth to
full form and function.

Whether you need a simple filling or a full-coverage crown, Korcek Dental uses the most durable, aesthetically matched materials available to restore your teeth to their best.

Restorations at Korcek Dental

What we offer and why materials matter

A dental restoration replaces or repairs tooth structure lost to decay, fracture, or wear. The goal is always to restore the tooth to normal form, function, and appearance while preserving as much healthy natural tooth structure as possible. Dr. Korcek uses only tooth-colored composite resin and ceramic materials — no amalgam (silver) fillings are placed at this practice.

Composite Fillings

Tooth-colored resin bonded directly to the tooth to restore cavities or repair chips. Matched precisely to your natural tooth shade. Requires less removal of healthy tooth structure than amalgam.

Porcelain Crowns

Full-coverage restorations that cap a damaged or weakened tooth. Used after root canals, for cracked teeth, or for teeth with very large fillings. Modern ceramic crowns are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Dental Bridges

A fixed prosthesis that spans a gap left by a missing tooth, anchored to the adjacent teeth. An alternative to implants when bone grafting is not an option.

Inlays & Onlays

Conservative porcelain restorations used when a cavity is too large for a filling but the tooth does not require a full crown. More durable than composite and a precise fit from a dental laboratory.

Dentures & Partials

Full dentures replace an entire arch of missing teeth. Partial dentures replace several missing teeth while attaching to remaining natural teeth. Dr. Korcek also places implant-supported dentures for improved stability.

Crown Lengthening

A surgical procedure that exposes more of the tooth’s structure by reshaping the gum and bone. Necessary when decay or fracture extends below the gumline and a crown is required.

Crowns

When a filling is not enough

A crown is indicated when a tooth has too little healthy structure remaining to support a filling. This happens when decay is extensive, when a large old filling breaks down, after root canal therapy (which leaves the tooth brittle), or when a tooth has a vertical crack. A crown covers the entire visible portion of the tooth, distributing chewing forces evenly and preventing further fracture.

The Crown Process

  • Exam & X-ray — Extent of damage assessed and crown option confirmed
  • Preparation — Tooth shaped under local anesthesia to receive the crown
  • Impression / Digital Scan — Precise capture of the prepared tooth and surrounding bite
  • Temporary Crown — Placed while the permanent crown is fabricated at the lab (1–2 weeks)
  • Cementation — Final crown seated, checked for fit and bite, permanently bonded

How long do crowns last?

With proper care, a quality ceramic crown typically lasts 15–25 years. Regular check-ups catch any issues before they become problems.

Does a crown hurt?

The preparation appointment is done under local anesthesia and should be comfortable. Some sensitivity on the temporary crown is normal and resolves once the permanent crown is cemented.

Same-day crowns

Dr. Korcek is evaluating CEREC same-day crown technology, which uses in-office milling to fabricate a crown in a single visit. Ask about availability at your next appointment.

Why We Use Tooth-Colored Materials

The case against amalgam

Amalgam fillings — the silver fillings used for decades — contain approximately 50% mercury. While the FDA considers low-level mercury exposure from dental amalgam safe for most adults, Korcek Dental has chosen to move entirely to composite resin and ceramic restorations for several reasons: they require less removal of healthy tooth structure, they expand and contract with temperature at a rate closer to natural enamel (reducing cracking over time), they bond chemically to the tooth rather than relying on mechanical retention, and they look completely natural.

“I became a new patient with Dr. Korcek today. He is by far the best Dentist I have ever had in my 20+ years living in Northern NV. He was kind, personable and professional. In addition, his front desk staff and hygienists were very welcoming and helpful. I will never go to another Dentist and I would recommend anyone looking for a Dentist to go see him. Thank you guys again.”

“We are traveling for the summer when my husband’s tooth had a crown come off. A few days later my husband has a nasty infection that had to be taken care of. I called Dr. Korcek’s office with Lori (office mngr) who answered the phone. She was so kind and empathetic. Lori was able to fit us in that afternoon. My husband received antibiotics and on his way to mending. Dr. Korcek was also empathetic and a big help. My husband had his tooth pulled. The bill was very fair for the services performed. To Lori: You are an absolute peach!”
